Bloodborne Pathogen Refresher Online Training

This training is required if you are manipulating unfixed human tissues and cells in a research setting or handling wastes contaminated with these materials.

Note: The REFRESHER is a once a year requirement for those people who have already taken and passed the Bloodborne Pathogen Training. If you wish to take this training in person, please contact the Biosafety Office.

Online Training Instructions

Step 1: Log into Blackboard. You must have a UT user ID and password to access this training. If you do not, please contact the Biosafety Office for further instructions.

Step 2: In Blackboard, click on the Biological Safety link on the right side of the page. Select the training session and follow the instructions.

Step 3: Take the quiz. You must pass this quiz (80% or higher). If you do not pass, you must contact Sarah DiFurio at sbottoml@utk.edu or 974-9836 to reset the quiz.

Step 4: Print the page indicating you have passed. Give one copy to your supervisor, and keep one copy for your records.

Step 5: Visit the Hepatitis B Vaccine Information page to review the Hepatitis B information sheet and directions on how to receive the vaccine. You must submit a completed Hepatitis B Vaccine Waiver/Acceptance Form or your Bloodborne Pathogen training will not be complete.

Step 6: Follow up with your Laboratory Supervisor for site-specific training.
